PLAYERS TO WATCH:
--- Junior forward Dario Hunt is nearly averaging a double-double scoring 12.1 points per game and grabbing 9.5 rebounds per outing. He has a season high of 25 points and has collected at least seven rebounds in 10 of 11 games. Hunt also has 146 blocks in his career and he's second on Nevada's all-time list.
--- Indiana transfer Malik Story (above, right) leads Nevada in scoring with a 13.5 average. In his first season with the Wolf Pack, he's started ever game. He's scored in double figures in six games this season. Story played 31 games as a freshman at Indiana.
--- It didnt' take long before Duke transfer Olek Czyz moved into the starting lineup. He sat out last season, became eligible last week and came off the bench in his first game with Nevada, finishing with 10 points and seven rebounds in 24 minutes against Arizona State. On Monday, Czyz moved into the starting lineup and and produced just five points and five rebounds in 28 minutes.
OVERVIEW:
--- The Wolf Pack beat Montana 81-66 in its opener before losing seven straight. It has won two of the past three games.
--- Nevada lost 78-75 at home to Arizona State on Dec. 17. The Sun Devils received a game-high 20 points from sharpshooter Rihards Kuksiks. Ty Abbott added 17 points and Trent Lockett 15.
--- Nevada has used four different lineups, but all of them have been dominated by freshman, including point guard Deonte Burton who has started every game. Two other freshmen (Kevin Panzer and Jordan Finn) have started this season.
--- This game looked a lot tougher last year when it was scheduled. In the offseason, sophomore Luke Babbitt, who led Nevada in scoring, declared early for the NBA draft and was selected No. 16 overall. He was traded to Portland. Nevada also lost junior Armon Johnson, its second leading scorer, who also left early and was drafted by Portland.
STARTING LINEUP:
F - Kevin Panzer, 6-9, 205, Fr., 4.5 ppg., 3.5 rpg.
F - Dario Hunt, 6-8, 230, Jr., 12.1, 9.5
F - Olek Czyz, 6-7, 240, Jr., 7.5, 6.0
G - Malik Story, 6-5, 225, So., 13.5, 3.8
G - Deonte Burton, 6-1, 185, Fr., 11.2, 3.6 apg.
KEY MATCHUP:
--- It should be interesting to watch 7-footer Aziz N'Diaye battle Hunt in the post. Nevada has good size and it averages 39 rebounds per game. N'Diaye isn't the scorer that Hunt is, but the Washington center has the size to keep him off the glass. If the Wolf Pack assign Hunt to N'Diaye, then Matthew Bryan-Amaning should have an advantage against Panzer, who is 35 pounds lighter, or Czyz, who is 2 inches shorter.
