Pac-10 Power Rankings: Week 4

In descending order ...

No. 10 (Last week: 10) Oregon State (Record: 3-4, RPI rank: 324)
Recent result:
Lost 83-57 at Colorado
How bad are things in Corvallis? Coach Craig Robinson benched senior guard Calvin Haynes, a second-team all-conference pick last season in favor of freshman Ahmad Starks. Starks was scoreless against the Buffaloes and Haynes had two points, three assists, three rebounds and three turnovers in 25 minutes. Roberto Nelson, who redshirted last season because of eligibility issues, makes his long-awaited debut Sunday.
Up next: Sunday vs. Texas Pan-at Colorado, 8 p.m. (ESPNU)

9. (6) UCLA (3-4, 147)
Recent results:
Lost 66-57 to Montana; Lost 77-76 at No. 4 Kansas
At first glance it appears as if the wheels have fallen off the Bruins bandwagon. But take a closer look. Losing at home to Montana isn't such a terrible thing considering the Grizzlies nearly upset Washington last year before falling 63-59. Still the cloud of mystique has been lifted over Westwood. ... Reeves Nelson may be UCLA's best player, but Tyler Honeycutt is the most talented and possibly the most important player. It remains to be seen whether he's a quality leader.
Next up: Saturday vs. Cal Poly

8. (8) Oregon (5-3, 101)
Recent results:
Beat Portland State 68-49, Lost 83-80 to No. 8 Missouri
The Ducks did exactly what they were supposed to do last week. The three-point loss to Mizzou is a little misleading because the Tigers didn't look as if they played their A-game. Still give credit to Oregon for keeping it close. The Ducks were picked to finish last in the Pac-10, but that's not going to happen. New coach Dana Altman has some nice pieces in Joevan Catron and E.J. Singler to build around.
Next up: Saturday vs. Willamette
