Despite stumbles, projections say UW makes NCAA tourney

Most NCAA tournament gurus believe Washington, which is 3-3 in its last six games and 5-6 in the last 11, will receive an invitation to the Big Dance.

The Bracket Project Matrix is the most complete analysis of tournament projections that I've seen on the internet. It takes a look at 79 brackets and combines the average.

The Huskies appear in every NCAA tournament projection. They're as low as a seventh seed and as 12. On average, Washington comes in at a No. 9 seed, which sounds right.

Still it's difficult to know if projections will change should the Huskies lose in the quarterfinals of the Pac-10 Tournament on Thursday to Washington State. The Cougars are considered a bubble team. They appear in only a handful of projections.

Arizona and UCLA are deemed locks, while USC is the only other Pac-10 team that's being mentioned as a NCAA tournament contender.
