Justin Holiday suffered a concussion during Saturday's 62-60 defeat to USC and Washington may have to play Thursday without its senior co-captain.
The Huskies are already shorthanded because coach Lorenzo Romar suspended senior guard Venoy Overton, who was charged Tuesday with furnishing alcohol to a minor. Overton will not play in the Pac-10 Tournament.
"Those are two guys that can create havoc defensively," Romar said. "That puts us with a seven-man rotation not counting Brendan (Sherrer) and Antoine Hosley. So I'd say that's a setback."
USC forward Alex Stepheson inadvertently poked Holiday in the eye in the first half while the Husky forward took a shot.
Holiday didn't complain of any headaches after the game, but he has not been able to Monday or Tuesday.
Holiday will need to pass medical tests Thursday morning in order to play.
"You have to show the ability to be headache free ... or dizzy free a day prior to playing," Romar said. "A lot of times they put you on a bike. Get your heart rate up and see if there's any type of headache or anything like that. If you're pass the test, you're OK."
Romar expects Holiday to play, but he was unsure who he would start if Holiday could not go.
Romar also didn't say with certainty if C.J. Wilcox, who has started three of the past four games would start. There's a chance Scott Suggs, who started nine games before missing three due to a strained left MCL, will return to the lineup.
What is certain, Terrence Ross will receive minutes on Thursday after receiving his first DNP-CD (did not play - coach's decision) Saturday.
Romar said there weren't enough minutes to play Ross against USC, but that won't be a problem in the next game. Romar admitted Ross may have lost some confidence because he's struggled offensively, but added "it really would not shock me if he came back the next game and scored 20 points."
Ross still has the green light to shoot before, however Romar said: "If two guys are running at him and another guy is wide open and he gets his shot block, there are times he needs to recognize that he needs to make the extra pass. But if he's open , he can shoot it as much as he wants. Same rule for C.J. and Scott."
