Just got off the phone with James Thomas, the father of Washington junior star Isaiah Thomas.
A couple of days ago he told KJR-AM radio his son would return for his senior year at UW. I asked why he was certain Thomas would come back.
"I believe in education and this is why we came here," James Thomas said. "UW has been loyal to us. They've been loyal in the aspects of giving my son an education and I've always said I believe in doing people the right way and giving back. He's making an effort to try and finish school early (academically). I know that. But it is what it is. I'm trying to get him to stay."
(Do you think he'll test the waters, go through some of the pre-daft workouts and then come back?) "I couldn't tell you. It is what it is. Right now everybody is riding high on him. Friday if the game doesn't go right, then they're riding low on him. You got to take the opportunities as they come. I know we're not going to say no. It's no way of saying no if there's an opening and it only opens a certain time especially for a 5-9 guy."
(Do you know if Isaiah wants to come back to break UW's all-time scoring record?) "The importance of breaking records has never been on Isaiah's mind. I think it just comes with the territory because wherever we've played, he seems to break the record anyway. Whether it's high school, elementary or junior high."

Coach Lorenzo Romar encourages Thomas to explore his draft potential.
"In my opinion the rule is there for him to test the waters and he probably should look at it," Romar said. "Whether he's coming back or not, we've not talked that far."
