Lorenzo Romar and Isaiah Thomas just met with the media. Thought I'd post some quick notes before interviewing other players.
Junior backup guard Scott Suggs strained his medial lateral ligament in his knee and will not play tomorrow against Long Beach State.
Backup guard Venoy Overton is still not 100 percent after injuring his tailbone two weeks ago.
Romar said there's a chance he may tweak the lineup.
Romar was pleased with UW was still in the games against Kentucky and Michigan State even though the Huskies didn't play their best. He said the rebounding remains a concern that could be rectified by more practice or changes in personnel.
Romar isn't overly concerned with the free throw problems. He said Aziz N'Diaye is improving and he expects Thomas to make more FTs than he did in Hawaii.
Romar heaped a generous amount of praise on N'Diaye, calling him a "difference maker." He also said Justin Holiday played well last week.
Romar talked about Long Beach State coach Dan Monson, who coached at Gonzaga and was offered the UW job before former AD Barbara Hedges hired Romar.
"That's the job I wanted all along," Romar said.
Romar said it's not essential to have a late-game closer. He said it would be nice to have 2-3 players comfortable in that situation and envisioned redshirt freshman C.J. Wilcox and freshman Terrence Ross maturing into that role towards the end of the season. Thomas is also a candidate.
Thomas has lobbied Romar to be UW's closer.
Thomas acknowledged his off free throw shooting and said "it will get better."
